The Refreshment Rooms: Discover Hearty Dining on the Banks of the Mersey

My friend and I visited the refreshments rooms for lunch while working locally. It was a sunny November's day. The refreshments rooms are located in a very interesting area on the banks of the river Mersey l. It was my first visit. Upon entering, a young lady at reception was very welcoming and directed us to a nice table. The interior decor is very interesting, with lots of pictures on the walls. The dining area is well appointed, too. Regarding the menu and food, there's a good selection of dishes available to suit most people. We ordered the scouse. It was delicious and priced reasonably. Overall, we really enjoyed our impromptu visit to this eatery. It's well worth a visit, and the areas are interesting to explore, too. I'll definitely be back

What a gem! The food was amazing. We all loved our dinners and desserts. Arrived over an hour before our booking but they managed to fit us in. Really lovely staff and blown away by the food. Will definitely be returning to try more dishes.

Great local restaurant! A large menu sometimes spells trouble but not here. Top quality, often with veg from their on site garden. The vegan roast is exceptional on Sundays. Great desserts, good for kids, great staff, top all round

Very impressed with the Refreshment Rooms. It's a big venue serving an extensive menu of hearty and delicious food - Fish and Chips, Burgers, Roasts, Scouse, Pies etc. There is also a lighter bites section of the menu. The food was excellent and service was great too. There's also a beer garden / plenty of outdoor seating.

BEST ROAST DINNER OF MY LIFE!!! So big and so delicious I could eat it every night. Belly pork was phenomenal! Only thing that was sad that it finished and I ate it all.

Comfortable place with a nice view of the Mersey from the bench across the road. Great service - we ordered and then went outside to watch the sunset - the waiter came to inform us a minute before our food was due to be served, so that the food wouldn't get cold. Roast trio of meat consisted of a generous amount of food, all well executed (pork with crispy crackling and tender beef, though I preferred the lamb)- Yorkshire puddings were the crispiest ever! My first time trying scouse, which was like a hearty lamb stew. Would revisit.

Absolutely love this place. Been a few times now for special occasions, catch ups, just because or for a pick me up because the food is amazing (salt and vinegar sauce is to die for), service is on point - just enough without being too much and the Aperol is always great . It has gorgeous views across to Liverpool, and despite being busy, you never feel rushed. Absolute gem of a place, can’t recommend enough.

Had a great family meal here! The food is delicious, (large portions, so don't over-order), and so are the cocktails. The staff are lovely, friendly and helpful. The restaurant is all on one level, so accessible, including the toilets. They have a beautiful garden, with outside seating for the good weather, and an awning protecting part of it. They also have a kitchen garden, where they grow some of the ingredients. The menu is not too extensive to be manageable, and changes from time to time. There are themed nights, which can get very busy. They have a separate menu for over 60s, and an allergy menu. The decor is shabby chic/vintage, with paintings and photos of local places. It is not the easiest place to find, but well worth it. I recommend that you book well ahead if you want to visit on the weekend.
